Three days after the ancient city of Ile Ife was bathed in the splendour of the coronation of Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the 51st Ooni , and social media continues to reverberate with the grandeur of it all.
The magnificence of the coronation of a Yoruba first class (as the direct Oduduwa descendant kings are termed in English) king was indeed a royal spectacle to behold
Invitees proudly showed off their invitation cards and/or VIP passes.
Pomp, pageantry & grandeur thickened the air in Ile ife and all over the Yoruba homeland as ancient traditions were followed.
And at the event itself people made sure to take photos of themselves with friends at the ceremony.
For those of us watching from thousands of miles away social media was the way to “attend” the ceremony through the lucky ones on ground
Array after array of gorgeously dressed ladies and gents (of course our favourite indigenous fabric made a grand showing on every head male and female in the flourish of craft-fully tied gele and proudly arched fila as well as delicately balanced iborun) as glittering daughters and sons of Oduduwa and their well-wishers showed their loyalty to the newly crowned handsome young king who promises a new Yoruba land for all.
Quite a day to be remembered for decades
