Did Lisabi establish Abeokuta?
It was Lisabi Day yesterday 29th February 2016 and the Alake of Egbaland had this to say in Abeokuta regarding Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala’s role in the founding of Abeokuta, the famous Yoruba war time refuge town sited beneath a behemoth granite rock. Abeokuta was founded in 1830 , 100 years after the 1730 demise of Lisabi, and so the late warrior never resided in Abeokuta and cannot be said to have established it.

The Lisabi Day celebrations last a weel with activities including the booming of guns at the Olumo rock, a procession to the historic Lisabi forest by the Alake of Egbaland, flanked by Obas , chiefs, baales and other traditional office holders . At the palace square proud sons and daughters of Egbaland will pay homage to Oba Gbadebo, with a closing thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta on Sunday, March 6.
