A COLLECTION OF THE BEST EGUNGUN FESTIVAL 2016 PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
The grand finale of the Egungun Festival took place yesterday on Saturday the 30th of July, 2016. The 17 day event is a yearly Yoruba Celebration.
At this festival Egungun from different quarters and court lineages come out to display elaborate outfits made of different fabric and designs.
Egungun after Egungun delights the teeming spectators from far and wide who storm the palace of Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin of Oyo.
The outfits, dance steps, drumming and acrobatic displays showcase an important aspect of the Yoruba heritage. Yorubas believe that Egungun are the spirit of ancestors returned to Earth.
In all over 20 different Egungun from all four local government in Oyo Federal Constituency i.e Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West converge in the Palace as early as 9.00am as drumming vibrated through the Aganju Forecourt of the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo.
