Yoruba disunity is centuries old, our ranks are filled to the brim in every generation, with  pontificators, idealists, egoists and extremists.

At every level we seem to bicker and disagree, some would even side with outsiders to win an advantage .

So we always have to work hard to present a common front on any issues affecting us. Present day Yorubaland within the Nigerian borders that is, not counting the Yorubas across the border in Republic of Benín, is divided into 6 states, mostly belonging to the same political party .

Notwithstanding the drama from the last elections, the governors of these states are making bold steps to unite and work as one.

We need decent healthcare, education , housing, social welfare across all of Yorubaland. This can be achieved in our lifetime if we forge ahead as one. Unity is the first step.

The Governor in the paisley patterned shirt (Gov Fayose) is seen as the biggest proof that we can unite in desperate times.

Oodua a gbe wa….

“Governors from South-west geo-political zone yesterday met in Ibadan and agreed to present a common position on the proposed constitutional amendment, their political differences not withstanding.”

“Governors at the meeting included Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo, Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) , Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti) and Akinwumi Ambode (Lagos). Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State was represented by his Deputy, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga.”

“Addressing journalists, Akeredolu said the meeting centered on the common interests of the region.“ We are from Oduduwa. All of us being brothers, are finding solutions to matters that are of common interest to all of us and we are doing it together. We want to present a common position and have our Houses of Assemblies and other stakeholders who believe in us to come along with us on issues we believe are fundamental to our interest.”
