Aare Ona Kakanfo Gani Adams: A new era begins in Yorubaland
Today’s formal inauguration of the National Coordinator of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo, by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, begins a new chapter in the annals of Yoruba narration. In this report, WALE ELEGBEDE writes about what makes the new Generalissimo of the Yoruba warriors tick and the arduous task ahead of him:
The Aare Ona Kakanfo is a position that epitomises the warfare and strength of the Yoruba race. He is the generalissimo of the Yoruba army. He either conquers or dies. He must never be defeated, he is expected to either win the battle or die on the battlefield. Otunba Gani Adams will today emerge as the 15th, joining those earlier installed to record his name in the history books.
